SASSA Unveils Updated Payment Dates and Rules in New 90-Day Plan Starting November 20

The South African Social Security Agency, SASSA, has prepared a new operational plan for 90 days that will start on November 20 and will include an overhaul of the entire payment days, verification rules, and the entire fraud prevention procedure, among other things. Primary goals of the operational plan are the performance of grant schemes, the duration of grants, and the access of grants to the millions of people living in South Africa. SASSA’s 90-day plan justifications.

Why SASSA Introduced the 90-Day Plan

This new strategy is simply one of the significant moves made by SASSA to enhance social grants management that the CMS reported as a problem during the payment cycles of 2025. The officials say that the 90-day plan will aim mainly at:

  • Reducing the Time for Verification that Advanced Systems Impose
  • Eliminating dual and illegitimate accounts
  • Engaging with the grant recipients

Furthermore, digital platforms such as the SASSA portal and WhatsApp service will also be updated. Most importantly, the recipients may have a smoother and more predictable payment schedule even stretching into 2026.

All Grants’ Payment Dates Changed

SASSA has announced that there will be no changes in the way of payment during the implementation of new guidelines, which means that the standard three-phase sequence will be followed. Nevertheless, the scheduling and guaranteed release windows will undergo a major transformation.

  • The Grant for Older Persons : SASSA has reported that Old Persons Grant which used to be the last grant paid each month will now be the first with the transfer starting right after November 20. Moreover, the payment of related grants such as Grant-in-Aid will also be done on the same day.
  • Disability Grant: The disabled individuals who qualify for the disability grant will receive their money not only more quickly but also more often, because the new schedule will be to pay the disability grants after the old-age grants.
  • Child Support, Foster Care & Other Grants: These grants will be disbursed more slowly than normal, that is, approximately two to three days after the opening of the disability grant. However, SASSA has now assured that all grants will be paid within the 5-day period which has been established, so the recipients will not have to face as much uncertainty as before.

Changes in Verification Rules for the Beneficiaries

The new verification rules will be the beneficiaries’ responsibility under the new 90-day plan:

  • Identity & Personal Information Verification: It is the beneficiaries’ duty to check that SASSA’s records reflect their ID number, name, and mobile number correctly. If these records differ from SASSA’s, the beneficiary may be temporarily banned from receiving benefits.
  • Bank Account Verification: Each beneficiary must verify that his/her banking details have been correctly recorded. Changes can only be made through the authorized SASSA channels.
  • Proof-of-Life & Activity Checks: SASSA will regularly carry out proof-of-life checks for visiting the elderly and disabled and monitoring overseas beneficiaries to stop fraud related to inactive accounts.
  • Annual Means Testing: Income verification will be done very rigorously. Ignoring means testing notification may lead to no payment during the 90-day cycle.

How Beneficiaries Can Check Their Status

To avoid delays, SASSA urges all grant recipients to confirm their status using one of the following official methods:

  • SASSA Status Check Portal
  • WhatsApp: 082 046 8553
  • USSD Balance Enquiry
  • Bank app or ATM
  • SASSA Call Centre: 0800 60 10 11

Beneficiaries should also update contact details to receive SMS alerts about payment updates or verification requests.
